Queen of Swords
Isobel
The daughter of an expert blacksmith, Isobel grew up learning how to work hot, molten steel into hardened, quality swords. Raised to be both a lady and a smith, she soon discovered that this skill was transferrable to handling the knights who wielded the very weapons she forged. When her father’s shop went under, she took to the road, meeting many a knight who desired a taste of her renowned talent. And the next morning, she would help herself to their steel—swords, shields, pauldrons—as “payment” for her services, just to sell them in the next town over. She then would pose as a knight’s widow with goods she “loathed part with, but must due to these hard times”, where she would often—by “divine providence”—meet her next charitable knight and the cycle would begin again.
Isobel is a social butterfly, greeting all she meets with a knowing smile and a charming curtsey. Don’t be fooled, though: her hands may be that of a smith’s but her touch is deft and her taste for the finer things in life is unmatched. Watch your heart—and your steel—should you ever cross her path.
Off the page, Isobel is known as Lauren, a passionate artist, musician and storyteller. She has been singing since the age of 5 and playing guitar since the age of 14. In her spare time, she likes visiting used bookstores in search of new books on folklore to add to her collection, as well as designing and painting paper parasols and fans.
